Change in Format, Not in Purpose
The CMMI Building Organizational Capability course is officially moving from four days to three. On paper, that looks like a simple adjustment — but in practice, it changes the rhythm of learning. Our goal is to ensure that even as the format evolves, the depth, dialogue, and discovery that make this course valuable remain intact.
Why We're Retaining a Four‑Day Timescale
We’ll continue to deliver the course across four days, even though the new version is designed for three. That extra day isn’t about adding more slides or theory — it’s about preserving space for conversation. CMMI is a framework that rewards exploration. Learners need time to connect its principles to their own organisational realities, and that happens best through discussion, debate, and reflection.
Catering for a Wide Range of Experience
Every cohort brings together people at very different points in their CMMI journey.
Those new to CMMI often need time to absorb the fundamentals — to understand how capability maturity translates into real organisational improvement.
Experienced practitioners come ready to challenge ideas, share insights, and debate interpretations.
A compressed schedule risks flattening those differences. By maintaining a four‑day rhythm, we can ensure that both groups get what they need:
Newcomers receive the guidance and clarity that build confidence.
Experienced participants have the space for dialogue and deeper exploration that keeps the learning dynamic.
The Value of Interaction
The richest learning moments come from conversation — when participants test ideas against their own experience. That’s why interactivity isn’t optional; it’s the core of capability building. By keeping the extended timescale, we can continue to:
Encourage open discussion and peer learning.
Use real‑world examples to ground abstract concepts.
Maintain the balance between structure and spontaneity that makes the course engaging.
Efficiency Without Compromise
The updated materials are more concise, which is of course welcome, but capability building isn’t just about absorbing information — it’s about transforming how people think about improvement. Our approach blends the streamlined content with the same interactive techniques that have always defined the course:
Scenario‑based exercises
Group discussions
Reflective debates on practical application
This ensures that the course remains both efficient and meaningful.
Looking Ahead
The shift to three days reflects a broader evolution in CMMI training — one that values accessibility and flexibility. Our commitment is to make sure that, even within that framework, learners continue to experience the depth, clarity, and transformation that define effective capability building.
We will of course continue to monitor the market; there are certain students who would prefer a shorter version of the course and so we may periodically offer the more compressed format to cater for those situations, but we will endeavour to retain a 4-day format for those students wanting a little more time to absorb the model..
